Year 13 and Year 14 Geography Trip to the Netherlands

8th Oct 2016

Pupils in Year 13 and Year 14 enjoyed a brilliant trip to the Netherlands. The storm surge barrier in Zeeland, built to protect the coastline after the 1953 storm surge, in which over one thousand Dutch people lost their lives, was a real highlight and an amazing feat of engineering. The tour of the artificial island-suburb of Ijburg with its floating modern apartments in the Water Quarter provided a fascinating insight into urban life here. The canal cruise of Amsterdam gave us a snapshot of this vibrant city while the windmill village of Zaanse Schans allowed us to step back in time to the 1600s…whilst also enjoying lots of free samples and shopping! It was an excellent, memorable trip and we were lucky to have super weather and a super group of pupils.
