NEWS from the Music Department

Talented Twins in ‘Buskfest’ competition success!

Congratulations to the talented sisters Catherine and Maria McStay who won First Prize and £500 in the Best Junior act Category in the Banbridge ‘Buskfest’ Busking Competition. The girls always wow us with their lovely singing in the Down High Traditional Group so we weren’t surprised to hear that they had done so well!

Amazing achievements from Miss Bourke’s Singing students

We were thrilled to hear that all of Miss Jenny Bourke’s Singing Students achieved Distinctions in their recent vocal exams: a fabulous achievement for all involved. Of particular note are Fiona Emerson and Lois Tate’s High Distinctions at Grade 8. The two girls have performed solos with the Down High Chamber Choir all year and performed brilliantly at the School Concert, so we are very pleased that they now have the qualifications they deserve  to end a great musical year.

Diploma award

Joanna Brown had already been awarded Grade 8 Piano with distinction this year and has now added an dipLCM Diploma to her list of impressive musical achievements. We are so proud of her and wish her every success as she starts her college career in Manchester.

Sara Kelly representing County Down and Down High in the Ulsters

Harpist Sara Kelly in 10L was placed second in the Down Fleadh. This means she now will represent Down in the Ulster heats of the Fleadh Cheoil na hEireann to be held in Bangor in the Summer. Good Luck Sara!
