Head Boy and Head Girl
INTRODUCING THE NEW HEAD BOY AND HEAD GIRL
James Scott and Megan Wilson have been chosen Head Boy and Head Girl after being endorsed by their peers and teachers in the period before Year 13 pupils departed on study leave. They are both looking forward to taking up their duties in September. James is a keen sportsman who has represented the school with distinction in both rugby and cricket. He already demonstrated his leadership potential when participating in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme and, outside school, through his role in the BB. James is a member of the school’s Scripture Union and is well known around the corridors of Down High by pupils in all year groups because of his friendly demeanour and encouraging manner. James is from a farming background and hopes to read Veterinary Science when he leaves Down High. He proclaimed himself “honoured and delighted” when he was elevated to the position of Head Boy, succeeding Conor Leonard in the role.
Megan Wilson has long since shown the type of energy and dedication associated with the role of Head Girl. The Killyleagh student has been displaying excellent leadership qualities for a number of years and her positive attitude has impressed everyone around her. Megan has represented Ireland at karate and excelled in a range of sports, not least Cross-Country running. She ran superbly in the Irish Cross-Country Championships in Cork earlier this year. Megan’s love of adventure is well documented and she, like James, has enjoyed thoroughly the opportunities presented by the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme. She is spending much of her summer in Botswana and Zambia as part of the World Challenge Expedition, led by Miss Stanley and Mrs Ellis. Megan loves photography, particularly wildlife, and looking after the ducks and sheep on the family farm is a particular joy. She is hoping to embark on a career in journalism. Megan is excited and privileged to have been appointed Head Girl (succeeding Amy Geddes) and is looking forward to taking up her duties – after a well deserved rest in August following the World Challenge project!
We wish James and Megan every success in their new roles. They will be ably supported by the Deputy Head Boys and Girls; John Donnan, Thomas Turley, Kerrie Stevenson and Hollie Green.
