RACQUET SPORTS
Tennis
Tennis is a summer sport at Down High and is particularly popular among the girls, who have achieved a pleasing level of success. Each year four teams are entered in the Ulster Championships. A number of our players in the junior and middle schools are capable of producing outstanding performances, with Anisa Dagher and Tara McClay seeming likely to excel at the sport over the coming years.
Squash
The proximity of Down Leisure Centre allows us to compete in Inter-Schools Squash competition and with Mrs Jacques’ coaching skills developing the performance of a number of our players, success has been achieved. A third-place in the 2007 Ulster Schools’ Squash Cup was followed by a brilliant victory in the Ulster Schools’ Novice Squash Cup. The sport continues to thrive and additional accolades were picked up at competitions in Lisburn in 2008.
Badminton
Down High Badminton continues to make great strides with teams of boys and girls practising hard and competing in a range of competitions with a pleasing degree of success. Coached by Mrs Hamill and Mrs Sinton, both sets of teams secured victories over well-ranked schools and there is a good pool of talent that can achieve considerable success over the next few years.
