The pupil leader is Sarah Bissenden, the Down High Show jumping team captain, who has represented the school with distinction for several years.

Our team participates in show jumping events including the Inter-Schools Show jumping Championships at Balmoral, the Schools’ League at Mossvale, the Belfast Royal Academy Ulster Schools’ Championship and an Easter Charity competition at Danescroft. Pupils in Years 8-10 compete in the Intermediate Class and the older students compete at Senior Class level.

Down High School has enjoyed considerable success in show jumping and has won a number events as well as gaining numerous placings in different competitions. The school team has achieved a First place at Balmoral in the Intermediate Show Jumping competition as well as a First prize in the Tack and Turnout phase. Down High won the senior competition at Silverwood in 2008, competing against twenty-four other schools. These successes have placed the school at the forefront of Northern Ireland show jumping. 2010 has been another fine year for both teams and individuals. Karl McCoubrey participated in the Horse of the Year Show at Royal Windsor and Joanna McEwan has been selected for the Great Britain Mounted Games team. Our teams (Down High Eagles and Down High Flyers) have competed at a consistently high standard throughout the year.
