The Senior Debating Society is a forum for incisive discussion, acerbic wit and the intelligent discussion of topical and often controversial issues. Meetings are led by two teams of debaters who attempt to score points against each other and persuade their peers to endorse their points of view. Always an occasion for demagoguery, the Senior Debating Society is an excellent training ground for future leaders in politics, law, journalism and industry. Recent debates have focused on blood sports, the death penalty, size zero models, Irish unity, the origins of the species, the war in Iraq, academic ion, the McCann police investigation, the environmental impact of 4x4 vehicles and penal reform.
Senior Debaters have enjoyed success at Public Speaking and Leadership competitions organised by the Soroptimists and the Rotary Club.
