MORE SUCCESS FOR DOWN HIGH IN EQUESTRIAN SPORT

The annual Inter Schools’ Showjumping competition was held on Saturday 3rd October at Balmoral Showgrounds. This prestigious event attracted entries from all over Northern Ireland and, as anticipated, the standard was very high.

Following another successful year, the Down High Equestrian teams entered riders in both the intermediate and the senior competitions. Holly McClenaghan, Vicki Truesdale and Karl McCoubrey were awarded second place for their ‘tack and turnout’.

The senior team, consisting of Jemma Parkhill, Zoe Woods, Alex Phair and Sarah Bissenden, having all successfully jumped double clear rounds, was placed 3rd in the final of the show jumping. The team captain, Sarah Bissenden said ‘I am really delighted, the competition is always high at Balmoral and it was a pleasing result.’

The Down High Equestrian teams will be competing at other events throughout the year and hope to build on their success at Balmoral. Some of the successful pupils are pictured here showing off their rosettes and also the newly-purchased numnahs displaying the school’s griffin crest.
