Girls Football Success
In a new initiative, Down High School entered an all-girl football team in the heats of the Northern Ireland Schools Tournament, staged at the Billy Neill pitches at Dundonald on 23 May. The girls won their heat, defeating Our Lady and St Patrick’s Grammar School (Knock) in the final of the tournament in a penalty shoot-out. The pupils, all from Years 8 and 9, produced some scintillating passing football and progress to the Northern Ireland finals on 20 June.
The team is pictured alongside Miss Heaney, Head of Girls’ PE:
Stacey Bryce (captain), Danielle Anderson, Kirsty King, Amie Coburn, Sarah Connolly, Charlotte Martin, Abigail Reid, Jessica Reid and Emily Irving.
Kirsty King was named Down High’s outstanding player of the tournament.
