John Neill Wins UK Science and Engineering Award

Congratulations to John Neill from 10L who has won the junior category of the prestigious National Science & Engineering Competition at The Big Bang UK Young Scientists & Engineers Fair.

The talented young student won the top prize in the Engineering and Technology category in the Competition.

John was one of 360 shining young stars chosen to showcase their work to a world-class panel of judges, and he turned heads with Keycall – a device for finding lost or misplaced keys.

John was also awarded the prize for the Best Individual Junior Project for Engineering and Technology.

His final prize, and perhaps the most exciting accolade, was The Broadcom Masters International Award for excellence in science, technology, engineering and maths, resulting in an all-expenses paid trip to represent the UK in the World Finals in Pittsburgh (USA) at the end of May. John is the first junior student to be selected to represent the UK in this prestigious event.

John says, “This has been the most amazing journey – from Downpatrick to Belfast and to Birmingham. I have met so many people and made good friends along the way. I would like to thank Mrs Hunter for believing in me and for her help, advice and support along the way.”

Well done, John. This is a fantastic achievement.
