A group of former pupils are planning an exciting fundraising adventure for two charities; Tiny Life and Cool Earth. Matthew Gourley, Andrew Bennett and Jordan Barr are planning to spend their summer driving through 31 countries to raise much needed financial support for their chosen charities.
The Dunumians discovered a promo video for the Mongol Rally 18 months ago and the second they finished watching they were sure they would be up for the challenge. Initially, anyone they told was sceptical, but after signing up last August they bought a car in December 2014 and since then there has been no turning back!
A lot of work has been carried out on their new purchase. They have added a roof rack and sump guard, brought the fuel and brake lines through the car rather than under it and changed the power steering and alternator belts.
Their adventure starts on 19th July from Goodwood and they will set off unaided! Mechanical difficulties will have to be managed, diagnosed and repaired by them as they don’t have the luxury of a technical support team.
The countries they will drive through are: NI, ROI, Wales, England, France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Czech Republic, Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Serbia, Bulgaria, Turkey, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Russia Mongolia
The way back is Russia, Finland, Estonia, Latvia,Lithuania, Poland,Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, France, England, Wales, ROI, NI
Plenty of countries as you can see!
The group’s accommodation will vary and ranges from camping to hostelling. They will cook their own meals, but plan to treat themselves to a few restaurant meals as well!
